Bringing Health back to People the Right Way

Monday, 01 February 2010 20:03 | Written by Jim Brunner

At the beginning of each New Year, we tend to look at making positive changes in our lives, including improving our health. We look at what we are doing now to stay healthy and what ways we need to implement to become healthier.

What is the right way to be healthier when it comes to our diet? Is eating more fruits and vegetables all we need to do? One way to bring more health into our lives this year is to eat a better quality of fruits and vegetables. Those with a higher level of nutrients are grown in a natural way. Food grown using a hydroponic natural method is more nutrient rich, which the best way to improve our overall health.

These are some of the health benefits of the fruits and vegetables grown at Natural Wonders Landscape U-Pick Hydroponic family-farm:

Broccoli - Like other cruciferous vegetables, broccoli contains the phytonutrients sulforaphane and the indoles, which have significant anti-cancer effects. Human population as well as animal studies consistently show that diets high in cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, kale, cabbage and cauliflower, are associated with lower incidences of certain cancers, including lung, colon, breast and ovarian cancer.
Cabbage - Many phytonutrients work as antioxidants to disarm free radicals before they can damage DNA, cell membranes and fat-containing molecules such as cholesterol. New research is revealing that phytonutrients in crucifers, such as cabbage, work at a much deeper level. These compounds actually signal our genes to increase production of enzymes involved in detoxification, the cleansing process through which our bodies eliminate harmful compounds.
Kohlrabi - The taste and texture of kohlrabi are similar to those of a broccoli stem or cabbage heart, but milder and sweeter, with a higher ratio of flesh to skin. Kohlrabi can be eaten raw as well as cooked.
Romaine Lettuce - Romaine's vitamin C and beta-carotene content make it a heart-healthy green. Vitamin C and beta-carotene work together to prevent the oxidation of cholesterol. Romaine lettuce is also a good source of potassium, which has been shown in studies to be useful in lowering high blood pressure, another risk factor for heart disease. The folic acid in romaine lettuce along with vitamin C, beta-carotene, potassium, and fiber content, can significantly contribute to a heart-healthy diet.
Spinach – With a low calorie factor, delicate leafy green vegetables like spinach provide more nutrients than any other food. Although spinach is available throughout the year, the season when it’s the freshest runs from March through May and from September through October. During this time it has the best flavor and is most readily available. Eating spinach also may provide you protection against osteoporosis, heart disease, colon cancer, arthritis, and other diseases.
As mental performance normally declines with age, but the results of Chicago Health and Aging Project (CHAP) suggest that eating just 3 servings of green leafy, yellow and cruciferous vegetables each day could slow this decline by 40%, suggests a study in the journal Neurology (.Morris MC, Evans DA, et al.) This decrease is equivalent to about five years of younger age, said lead author Martha Clare Morris, ScD, with Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
Strawberries - Strawberries, like other berries, are famous in the phytonutrient world as a rich source of phenols. Strawberries' unique phenol content makes them a heart-protective fruit, an anti-cancer fruit, and an anti-inflammatory fruit, all rolled into one.

If each of us makes a concerted effort to choose high nutrient fruits and vegetables, we will make a positive difference in our health. Selecting them directly from the Natural Wonders Landscaping U-Pick Hydroponic family-farm will go a long way to improve our health the right way.

You Can Have Paradise in Your Own Backyard

When I come home after work and close my front door, all I want to do is to shut out the world and have some peace, my own slice of heaven. Or at least my version of heaven, right there in my own backyard. A place where I can go everyday to de-stress, where it is calm and relaxing.

Developing our outdoor landscapes to soothe our senses is the goal of most homeowners when they do the planning for their outdoor yard space. However, many times when the landscaping is finished, you really don’t get the sense of peacefulness you were going-for when you made the original landscape plan.

You wanted a place where you can go to relax, mentally drift away from the cares of the day. A place where just sitting there quietly, listening to the water trickling in the fountain, or the wind rustling the trees seems to pull the stress of the day right out of you. A place where the light fragrances of the flowers seem to relax you to the point that you forget you are in your own backyard. A place where you can happily entertain family and friends. I think this is the picture we all have in our minds. This is the type of outdoor space we would all like to have at home, one that gives us a mini-vacation every day. Well what does it take to really bring this vision into reality?

It requires a landscape plan that considers the layout of your yard, how you want to live in your outdoor space, the climate, proper foliage and plant selection, and water requirements. Natural Wonders Landscaping has designed and created many outdoor landscapes that match the visions we all have for our outdoor spaces. They have designed front and backyards that give a sense of being on vacation. Outdoor spaces that are tranquil with fish loaded ponds, bridges, waterfalls, trees, shrubs and lighting that can mentally take you away for a real mini-vacation right there in your own yard. The attention Natural Wonders Landscaping brings is continued after the installation is completed, by follow-up on the foliage and plants to ensure they remain lush and healthy for the enjoyment of you, your family and friends.

The hydroponically grown fruits and vegetables available at Natural Wonders Landscaping U-Pick farm are hydroponically grown, with the health of the family in mind. We all need to consider the way our fruits and vegetables are grown, to make the best food choices to benefit our overall health.

What are Hydroponic Fruits and Vegetables?

When we think of growing fruits and vegetables, we usually picture them being grown from a tree or from the soil. Natural Wonders Landscaping, a professional landscaping company has decided to change the way we get our fruits and vegetables, using safe Hydroponics to grow them on their family owned landscape nursery and U-Pick Farm located Coconut Creek, Florida. The nursery and farm is also close driving distance to Boca Raton, Coral Springs, and other South Florida cities.

Hydroponics is a method of growing plants in a mineral nutrient solution other than soil. The solution can be liquid or an inert medium for such as perlite. The hydroponic home grown fruits and vegetables at Natural Wonders Landscaping U-Pick Farm offers a definite health advantage over organically grown food because hydroponics allows the grower to totally control the quality of the fertilizer used. Often the fertilizer used in organic growing can contain animal by products, which can reduce health benefits.
The U-Pick Farm at Natural Wonders uses all natural fertilizers on over 30,000 hydroponically grown plants.

Another benefit of hydroponics is the watering Drip System which uses 100% of the water; absolutely no water is wasted during the watering process. The zone watering drip system inserts water from the top of the grown tower all the way down to the last pot, not one drop of water is wasted. Using this type of watering system helps to ensure the growth cycle of the fruits and vegetables.

At Natural Wonders Landscaping U-Pick Farm you can stand to choose the fruits and vegetables you want to have on your dinner table. There is no bending over to pick your butter crisp lettuce, fresh strawberries, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli, peppers, spinach, kohlrabi and romaine making your experience more enjoyable for the entire family. The U-Pick is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday evenings 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

It is the vision of Natural Wonders Landscaping and farm to serve as your personal gardening implementers and make the whole world a paradise with their residential and commercial landscapes.
